Synopsis:

Close To You is a meeting of hearts and minds across generations. Academy Award Nominee Elliot Page (Juno, The Umbrella Academy, Inception), makes his first major film appearance since his transition, as a man returning to his family home, uneasily aware that his reception will not be as overwhelmingly positive as he would like. Director Dominic Savage, who appeared in Barry Lyndon 50 years ago, invited Page to take on this role, and the two of them bonded in understanding the risk of not being accepted by the world, yet still being willing to meet those misrepresentations. It’s a simple story with a complex heart, and Page is terrific as Sam, travelling back to his past while embracing his future; it’s great to see him back on screen again.

Post-film discussion will feature live subtitling and BSL interpretation supported by BFI Film Audience Network, in collaboration with Sense and Accessibility, Switch and Queer Vision.
