MAIA is in a period of transition. Over the last 12 years, MAIA has been in a place of asking questions, posing ideas, enquiries, speculations and experiments in communion around visions for a liberated world. We’ve been particularly exploring liberation through the lenses of land and space; creative practice and cultural production; and circular economics and resource redistribution.
Many of these speculative ideas and visions have been crafted, shaped and rehearsed by Black artists, in dialogue with our wider community. In 2025, we are going to respond to our own questions. The manifestation of this transition will lead to the materialising of ABUELOS, and a constellation of organisations that collectively ground in spatial justice, community economics and creative practice. We are going to build what we’re longing for.
