Stagetext are thrilled to see that all of the winning theatre and musical productions at this year’s Olivier Awards offered captioned performances or have captioned productions in their upcoming schedule.
This is a good increase on 2018 where 90% of winners were captioned.
The winning productions, which are either captioned by Stagetext or by trained in-house captioning teams, benefit d/Deaf, deafened or hard of hearing audiences.
One of the big winners at last night’s Olivier Awards, Come from Away, which won four awards, has a captioned performance scheduled for July this year.
Of the nominated theatre and musical productions this year a total of 82 per cent have either had a captioned performance or are scheduled to have one later this year, these include shows such as: Six, Sweat, The Lehman Trilogy, All About Eve, and King Lear.

From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a 75-minute celebration of 21st century girl power. These Queens may have green sleeves but their lipstick is rebellious red.
Sweat | Gielgud Theatre, London | 10 July

Sweat is the Pulitzer Prize-winning play that Lynn Nottage wrote following her experience spending time with the people of Reading, Pennsylvania. Her tale of friends pitted against each other by big business, and the decline of the American Dream will transfer to the Gielgud Theatre after a sold-out run at The Donmar Warehouse, directed by former Donmar Resident Assistant Director Lynette Linton.
